Thumbs up What a 4yo girl is doing for rescue...

I got this email from the local Swissy club list today and thought I'd share it - in part to see if anyone is aware of a Chicago or Milwaukee area rescue that is really in need right now (after all the flooding, there might be one that is) and because she just makes me smile. She's 4 and she's doing this - amazing! She's been to Best Friends on vacation with her mom, so go figure...

If anyone has ideas, please let me know.

    Hi Guys –
Lourdes (my 4 year old daughter) has expressed a strong desire to help and love animals w/o homes. Lulu’s desire to help (at her age) has drawn some attention from Best Friends Animal Sanctuary as well as other large animal rescue operations.

She’s expressed her desire to the right people and has accumulated treats and toys etc. She want to give them to an animal rescue / foster operation / needy shelter to help the animals that don’t have a family.

Local rescues (Orphans of the Storm in Deerfield, IL and Save-A-Pet in Round Lake, IL) are doing really well and I would like to see her donation make an impact. A few years ago I knew of a couple who set up a foster operation in their 10 acre property to care for many dogs and cats. I recently found out the couple moved and has relocated to Michigan. So I’m reaching out to the LakeShore peeps in hopes you are aware of a local shelter / animal rescue / foster operation where we can donate the item’s she’s collected. I’d be willing to drop these items off tomorrow.

Selfishly – I see my daughter’s compassion and maturity when it comes to animals and love how she’s wrapping her mind around the idea of “helping”. I’d really like her to be impressioned by this gift she is giving to a rescue and considering the attention Lourdes has gained, I’m hoping to establish a relationship in the future. If this rescue/shelter/foster has a wish list perhaps we can spend time collecting and really participating in doing some great things. I’d like her to work w/ a facility that will work with her …

If you are aware of an animal rescue operation – Please contact me.

Yup. I've asked her if she'd write an article about it for my blog.

Follow up-I received this email today.

    Hi Melissa -
Thanks for giving me a few names and the idea to look for shelters that may have been impacted by the flooding.

We found CCR - Chicago Canine Rescue

Their basement flooded ruining their supplies and storage. Thank goodness none of the dogs were harmed however their wishlist was full of cleaning supplies and treats etc...

We were able to give our donation and Best Friends Animal Sanctuary sent Lulu a few boxes of treats and toys and we stopped at Sams Club and picked up some cleaning supplies for them. They were very appreciative.

They asked Lulu why she thinks some dogs are in the animal shelter and her response was "people forgot they have to love them" ... She has the entire office "awww"-ing at the comment.

We took a couple dogs for a walk and plenty of treats and love. They are a super small operation (depending most on foster care) which pull cases from local hospitals and shelters and majority with health concerns.

I was really pleased with the vibe I got and will definitely refer people and donations there again. Very cool group of people.

    Anywho - Thought I'd share
