I saw this last night on National Geographic, and I have to say I was pleasantly surprised. It was incredibly well rounded, they discussed over breeding for type (But not in a doom and gloom way), and at the end they expounded on making sure that qualified parents get genetic testing (They went to a show and had a mobile vet there who examined hips and elbows and explained it). They also talked about rescue and over population at the very end. (Matt even got choked up, and he never cries)

Definitely worth a watch.

Yeah its a two hour special. According to the link the next time it's on is Friday at 9PM. I'm assuming that's EST but they don't elaborate...
