    Default Moo

One of my neighbors is buying a cow from 4 H and asked if we want to go in on it. So we are. Aside from the meat for human consumption, what should I ask for from the butcher that my dogs would like? Does tripe come into play here? The tongue and the tail are spoken for. Everything else is up for grabs.

    Suggestions?

I would mention "parts" in general. And organs. Many butchers will pitch some of that stuff.

If I just say parts, does that mean I am going to end up with a penis?

Hopefully not the Butcher's. Unless your name is Alice and your butcher is named Sam...then things could work out okay.

Yah but that would be pre-dehydration. Which means it would LOOK a lot like what it actually WAS.

And I am not sure I could handle that.

So what about tripe? What s that? And does it come from a cow?

There are multiple types of tripe, including beef tripe. It's usually made from the first 3 chambers of a cow stomach. I have never found tripe that doesn't smell god awful, although the dogs have always loved it.

And yes, the weener would be pre-dehydration, unless you can find someone to process it for you.

So stomach is definitely something i want to ask for. And shanks for the pups to chew on. I wonder if they will grind up the organ meat. Maybe then Reg and Max will find it palatable.

now is this a boy cow or a girl cow. Because if it is a girl cow it would not have the stated above penis. If its a boy it is technically a steer. just my 2 cents.

    So true, Jenni.

You'll want the trip "green" which means it hasn't been washed or processed or something like that. It will smell. Really, really smell.

Hmmm... I dunno if it is a girl cow or a boy cow. I don't get to pick it out - which is fine by me. If I had to see it before buying, we may not have meat. We have a new pet instead.

The heart, liver, kidneys are all good for the dogs... heart is a muscle meat - not organ technically. You could ask for the skull and the dogs could chew on that sucker for a while...definitely get the femur bones as Melissa mentioned. the green tripe will definitely stink - but the dogs absolutely go nuts for it.

Ok, I will ask for all of that... except the skull.
Can't get behind that idea, sorry Val.
