New Lyme Vac

Lowe got her new Lyme vac today. The vet is using a new one. The company says that they will pay for all treatment if the dog comes up positive. That is how sure they are about their product. She got the first shot today and in 3 weeks she will get a booster. They say the booster can come anywhere between 2-4 weeks but they say 3 is the best. Will post the name in the morning. Paperwork is somewhere.

A friend of mine was just diagnosed with Lyme disease. Is it true that it is like the flu in that there are any different strains of it?

I thought it was the same strain but just affects different dogs in different ways...same as in people. We have lots of people here get it. Most of the time its no big deal, others it leads to arthritis and now recently I am seeing several cases of lyme myocarditis where it affects the heart.

We think that Valor's death was caused by Lyme that had settled in the heart muscle and gone undetected. It's a scary, strange disease.

So jumping onto an old thread. What's the deal with this vaccine? Is it safe? Any side affects you'v noticed? I just found out that my friend's property is seriously infested with lyme. (Their mother-in-law got it, and two of the neighbor's dogs have been diagnosed. ) They live further up the mountain than we do.. but i know i have ticks on my property. Do they prescribe a vaccines for pups?

No issues as far as I am concerned. She had no issues with lyme. She only had issues with Anaplasmosis and they do not give a shot for that. We spend the summer in Lyme country and the girls are forever in the woods. With the number of ticks I pulled off Lowe I am thinking the vacs must have worked. Freedom will get the new one this spring.

I had to vaccinate for Lyme with this new vaccine b/c my area has 50% of our ticks positive for Lyme. It's supposed to be an effective vaccine. As much as I hate to give vaccines, I feel this one is a good idea here. Unfortunately, this vaccine was hard on Delilah (as are all vaccines). She was not herself for a week.
