Leonbergers are supposed to be shown in a natural state. the ONLY trimming allowed is on the feet...anything else is I believe a DQ...so that is pretty serious business. I would keep scissors and clippers far far away from any Leo. Whiskers also...leave them alone. Neaten the feet, wash the dog...blow it out...backbrush a bit...and go.

correction NOT a DQ BUT...extremely frowned upon and out of standard..to overgroom trim or touch anything but the feet.

110% agree. Once in a while I will trim flyaways on the butt fluffs and back of legs but never so it looks like a straigt line.
Our girls are def wash and dry with lots o brushing. I do the top and bottom of the feet. Remember they have a full web. Also in the summer we leave the bottom a little longer to protect pads from hot pavement. In the winter the bottoms are super tight to prevent ice balls as we are in Northern IL and WI. Also the long hairs on the top side of the ears should be left alone.

Also I have seen them back brushed on the rump.
