So, Cash and I were out for our walk this morning. He had his pack on and I took the Gentle Leader with me, but did not make him wear it - we usually only put it on him if he starts to pull these days. With the pack he is a very well-mannered boy. So we were 3/4 through our walk and he had been great the whole time. We had passed several dogs and he was interested, but very well behaved. We were coming up on a man with a poodle. I thought about crossing the street because Cash was quite interested in the poodle, but decided to just cut wide and keep Cash close and tight. He was still doing great. As we got closer the man said his girl loves to play. I commented that Cash does, too, but his play might overwhelm her. He clearly wanted to let them greet and I almost kept walking, but for whatever reason, I paused. Cash lunged to greet the poodle (not a very Good Citizen, Cash!!) and my foot hit the damp grass, slid and I was on my butt. Mad & embarrassed. My own fault. I think he had just been doing so great and I let my guard down. He just wanted to play and got excited. This man lives a few blocks up the street so I will surely see him again and I'm sure he thinks my puppy is out of control (I certainly wasn't in control while on my butt, huh?!), though he didn't seem too worried about it. My ego and pride are hurt the worst, but I do think I strained my back a bit. Ugh!!
