Default DNA testing for inherited diseases.

This is great! Now you can test your dogs dna to see if a carrier for diseases known to plague breeds.

Interesting...I knew there was talk of this, but didn't realize it had happened already. Thanks for posting about it.

Its wonderful to have. While it does not replacing the testing to determine if a dog has this, at least you would also know the dog is not a carrier of whatever disease. Especially when it comes to degenerative or progressive diseases. By the time it shows up in the parent dog, the dog is older, and probably already produced pups by then.

But they have to know what gene in the DNA has the particular disease right? I'm pretty sure they have to figure that piece out of the puzzle first and not all diseases are just automatically found. Don't know for sure, I like math, not a scientist.

Yes they identify the marker for that disease. If present the dog is a carrier, it is present. Then the dog is clear of that disease is not present to pass along. Even colors in some breeds have markers for throwing certain colors, and that was fascinating to see they could do that test as well.
