Xander is turning red on his front paws and on the top of his muzzle.. sookie is only red under her collar!? wtf? She was raised on eagle pack, he came on orijen. I switched him off the orijen recently and on to the eaglepack ... hes not licking himself, hes not drooly? Im ready to switch to another food maybe? its driving me nuts.

    Any ideas?

The white on Duke's neck turned pink this summer and I had the same reaction as you, thought maybe it was an allergy. I looked at his skin underneath and it was a little scabby. With others' help we finally figured out that it must have been from having him in the pool with us and it didn't dry fast enough and irritated his skin and that caused his fur to turn a pinkish color. Have they been playing in water? If so, maybe that has something to do with it? We ended up shaving Duke's neck - per someone's suggestion, and it cleared up really quickly.

It's most likely from saliva. He probably is licking himself when you are gone. Whitening shampoo will help a little but I've had very little luck with my two. Filtered water may help too. Good luck!!

There's something you can add....to remove it...lemme see if I can find it...

eta: Ahhh...Tylan, same stuff that is in Angel Eyes...purported to help red staining anywhere. Can be found in local feed stores in the poultry area.

Also a course of Tetracycline can also eliminate it. As can the aforementioned filtered water. If the staining is yeast based, Flagyl can help.

Janey's right front leg is red from licking it. It drives me crazy.
