We had to reschedule his appointment because of the tramadol I gave him yesterday evening. He is too wobbly to have an evaluation or to get him to the vet. The vet has offered to come over, which we may do later today. He's been wobbly from tramadol before so this is 'normal' for him, but the rest of the symptoms he has seem worse right now. The vet did not sound optimistic, in general, though. I did not want to put him through so much when he is struggling so much. He doesn't seem to be in pain today so hopefully, once the tramadol has worn off, we can have an evaluation that would be fair to Oliver and show his real capabilities rather than his greatly diminished capabilities right now due to the tramadol's side-effects on him. Thanks for the hugs and positive thoughts. I am beside myself.

Thanks so much. I cannot tell you how nice it is to come and check in and see your well-wishes. The vet is on her way over to see him today just because I'd like to add pain meds if possible while we wait to do x-rays until he feels any better.

Update: The vet just left and she is positive that Oliver does not have osteo. He is only painful in his spine and she feels that that is related to arthritis. He may have nerve pain in his elbow since that is the area right below where his spinal pain starts, so we are going to try Amantadine which is supposed to help with nerve pain and chronic pain. *fingers crossed* that is helps him. It takes at least a week to kick in.

I am glad your vet came to see him today...for him and for you. It is just a horrible sick feeling wanting to know and not wanting to know.

Thanks, you all. I am feeling better even though we need to get his pain under control, I at least feel like we have a chance to make him feel a bit better. He is on the couch right next to me, which is a great sign b/c he did not want to even try to get up on the couch the last 2 days. So, somehow, even though he hasn't had an awesome day, he is feeling a bit better.

On a slightly humorous side-note; while I was helping him outside today I got the bright idea to use the belly sling we had for Delilah to help him go to the bathroom but I forgot he had a penis and I held it right below his belly and told him to go potty. He gave me a weird look and I told him to go potty again, so he did. On the sling. Awesome. I am an idiot. So, I will remember to move it before he pees next time.

Poor guy - his owner forgetting he was a boy dog with boy bits! I am glad he is feeling a bit better and I hope the pain meds help. I am assuming you have him on gluc/condroit? It worked SO well for our old dog - I swear it helped him live years more.

So glad the vet was able to come and see him at your house. Hopefully the pain meds will continue to make him feel better.

Yep, he's in Gluc/Chond, CetylM, high doses of MSM, fish oil (salmon whole body + DHA), hyaluonic acid, vitamin E, vitamin B, as well as Deramaxx and now amantadine. I've had him on joint supplements for years hoping to stave off degeneration of his joints. I added the MSM in high doses about 6 months ago and the CetylM, HA, and vitamin B more recently. I need a old-man pill organizer for all of his supplements!
