Thumbs up Troll and his 2nd TPLO

Okay, well Troll went in for his right TPLO this morning (I posted on FB this AM, then I got a lil sick to my tummy and couldn't stop crying) Anyhow..his doc just called to tell me that he made it through surgery with flying colors. He will be staying there overnight just to make sure everything is all good, and we'll pick him up tomorrow. He is snoring like a freight train now, so that is a positive We also had his hips xrayed again (had them done last year before the 1st TPLO) because his left hip was not all that great - the great news on that front is that there was NO change in either hip from the previous xrays. YAY!!! So, since I stayed up all last night snuggling with my boy, I'm gonna go take a nap with the Tink now...poor girl is not happy 'bout her brother not being here.

I didn't say anything about it to anyone. With finals, Graduation and then him blowing his knee on Monday(a week ago) I have been a walking wreck. He had his consult on Wednesday, so I only had a few days to digest the fact that we were going through another surgery with him so soon after the last one (we knew the ACL was torn, we had hoped that it wouldn't totally blow so soon)I also had to decide if we were going to wait a bit before having it done, and made the decision to do it now. This way he would be through the worst of the healing before the snow hit. The thought of having to cart him around in the snow was a big reason we did it now instead of later - it will be easier on him. Thanks for the hugs..they are very much needed today

That was smart to get him done before winter. Jas had his OCD surgery the end of OCT and I worried about him slipping all winter.

Yep. That's what I was worried about with him, too. Since it has only been since January when he had his last one done, he is still favoring the left leg a bit. I am SO glad now that we did the extra therapy with him instead of just the "recommended" 2 months worth. (He did his last hydro-treadmill the last week of July) I think it really gave him an edge on working up the leg muscles - he also dropped nearly 20 lbs since December...he's a svelt 165 now, and I think THAT will be a big help!

Big Hugs to you and Troll. I'm so happy to hear that he came through his surgery perfectly and is now sound asleep. I hope you and Tink have a nice nap and that you feel better now that you know he is doing great.

Did he blow out both of his ACL's???

I went through one TPLO surgery and that was plenty!
Hope he continues to do well...

Jodi, we pick him up tomorrow - since he had an issue with his spleen folding over on itself before the last TPLO, the docs want to keep him overnight just to keep an eye on him. Will get you a semi-stoned pic of him when we go get him

Kim, when he took the header off the deck in December he blew the left knee and tore the right knee. We were just hoping that it would have made it a little longer before we had to put him back under since we really didn't want to do BOTH knees at once. And yeah, I'm not really looking forward to the next 3 months...we JUST got him healed up from the last one!

Fortunately for us, he really is a very good patient. He doesn't lick incisions and he is pretty lazy, so we don't usually have to crate him. He has a huge bed in the den, and on normal days he'll get up for breakfast, take a quick potty break and then back to napping the day away. His last recovery was very uneventful, so we are hoping for a repeat of that one!
