Brown Goop in the Eye

Reggie and Maxine both have a little bit of brown goop that comes out of the corners of their eyes daily. I equate it to the "sleep" that we humans get in our eyes in the mornings.

The last week or so though, Reggie has been leaking it out of both corners of one of his eyes and the amount has increased. Probably the size of a pencil eraser's worth every two hours or so.

Why do you think it has suddenly increased? Allergies? Change in the temperature? His diet has not changed and his eyes do not seem to bother him at all. They are not red or irritated - just more oozy. Ideas?

possible flush with some saline. Bath recently?

maybe just a bit of conjunctivitis.

Indy's goop production increases at this time of year, and I know she has seasonal allergies. But her goop is more of an off-white color, not brown. I start dosing her up with a little benadryl here and there. She's probably due to eat a container of it in the next several weeks.

No bath recently. Although I probably should before it gets too cold to do it outside.

Should I try some Benadryl and see what happens? How much do I give?
