    Default Pelican Bay food?

Has anyone heard of this? I was in Costco today and they are now carrying it. It is a grain free/Salmon kibble. 30# for $30. I'd love to be able to feed my dogs something much "better" than Costco food but it's what my budget allows right now. Problem is, Echo has had the runs for a while now and even cooking/feeding chicken and rice is not helping. I bought a bag to try and have been searching the internet for info on it, but not coming up with much....

I was able to find a link to a discussion about it on another forum.

    Linky

But the link doesn't give too much info other than they couldn't find it either. I'll see what I can find.

Ok.....I've found some more info on it on four other breed forums. I see it mentioned several times that it is essentially TOTW.....? Curious to see how Echo does on it. Our next step is probably raw but I'm trying to avoid it because she gets very food aggressive with raw and I don't like that around the kids.

the concern with TOTW was that there was ethoxyquin in the salmon meal. i'm not sure how you'd find out if this fish meal has it or not. hopefully not because it would be great if more people had access to a good grain free food.

Yes, I've tried pumpkin. It's done nothing for her stools. And it's not just that they are "loose." She realizes she has to go and if she isn't out within seconds, she has watery poop all the way to the door, so there's the "urgency" part of it as well. I've had her stool tested for everything when I was afraid she had salmonella. Everything came back negative. And it wasn't the first time her stool has been tested

I'll have to check on the ethoxyquin, although I'm pretty sure that any food that is in my price range is going to have it. I feel like a bad parent knowing but still feeding, but I'm just not able to spend $50 for a bag of food.

I thought TOTW/Diamond removed ethyx from its foods as of June?

Well, Echo has slept through the night for two nights straight. And the runs are almost gone. I can hardly believe it. I'm almost afraid to say anything for fear of jinxing myself. I was feeling quite run down from getting up 2-6 times a night with her, just so she could go out. Let's hope this lasts!!!! I know she must feel better to not have constant diarrhea.

Echo still has 'perfect poops' and LOVES her food. And she is still sleeping through the night. If Costco stops carrying this food, I'll have a breakdown!

According to the company, ToW bags with an expiration date on or after May 15 2011 no longer use fish meal sourced from a company that uses ethoxyquin as a preservative.

I thought that was 2010 rather than 2011? Is that a typo or did they delay the switch for a year?

Oh, I bet that's what it is..the expiration date is probably about a year after production. I was thinking about when they changed the production and not thinking about what the bags would say re. the expiration date.

The only thing I heard about the Pelican stuff is the same as above. I did talk to some people buying it at Costco and they love it!! Their dogs had been having issues on other foods, and this seemed a reasonable compromise. I hope it works for you!

My mom was saying her dog with all sorts of Allergy issues does better on the Pelican (Costco) food than on TOTW.
