    Default Catahoula

I'm embarrassed to say I've never heard of this breed. I googled it but was hoping for some first hand insight. Does anyone know about or have a Catahoula?

I've known a couple "cats". They remind me of a cattle dog in personality; smart, strongwilled and tough.

People often argue with me about Boku being a Catahoula. We know she isn't but apparently she sure looks like one, enough for people to argue about anyway. I had never heard of them either until I began to be accosted while walking with Boku From the pictures that I have seen of true catahoulas they have more of a 'hound' like head than Boku does, and tend to have a shorter coat.

Unfortunately I think that many humane socities see a spotted dog and don't know what it is so they label it a Catahoula. After meeting several dogs that have been labeled 'Catahoula' by the local humane society I wonder if a lot of them are like Boku, Lab/Aussie or other mutt mixes.

It also does not help that Catahoulas were never bred to a specific breed standard appearance, more to the abilities of the dog, so they can vary wildly.

Add high energy to that and you have the Catahoula...
They actually remind me of a terrier...LOL.

They are not a dog for the novice dog owner. They need lots and lots of physical and mental exercise.
They are also notoriously thunder phobic...

I agree, Kim. I was going to describe them as a cross between an ACD and a terrier. VERY high energy, and most I've know were also very protective.
