    Default Dyson Pet Vacuum

OK I broke down and just ordered one of these. If it burns up I am going to be really ticked off.

My concern is not the suck factor but the pyr hair getting tangled in the roller brush.
Janey's hair is most 6-7 inches. They are already starting to blow coat which is really wierd.

a couple hints from our experience with the Dyson. Empty the canister FREQUENTLY. It fills up fast, and if not emptied, backs up into the works of the vacuum. We spent some quality time with an old coat hanger rodding out hair from the innards of our vacuum.Check the rollers after every use.Dog hair spins onto the roller like a spinner's wheel and soon you have an impenetrable mass which freezes the roller.

And that is my BIG concern.
I sure hope I didn't just blow $500 on ANOTHER vacuum that doesn't work with pyr hair.

Keep in mind, that when vacuum cleaners want their children to behave, they tell them horror stories of OUR house. " Eat your vegetables, children...or we'll send you...THERE!!!" Two Leonbergers, a Springer, and a whatsit, all shedding as though it was a competition, plus tracking in dirt, pine needles and leaves. We have murdered three vacuums and they died horrible deaths.

I have to clean the roller of our vacuum every time I use it, otherwise it starts to stink like burning hair. But it works great when we maintain it that way.

it's weird having dogs now that don't shed. Of course the down side to that is that they have to go to the groomers every six weeks.

Birdie sheds and has to go to the groomer.

I hated my dyson, but most people love them. Its all plastic, so mine kept breaking.

I commented before coffee this morning. I have a Kirby, which is made of metal and I still clean the roller each time. I do not have a Dyson. I don't know what my comment had to do with....sorry. I've killed many a vacuum before my Kirby, which has lasted at least 5 years now and it is amazing. I think I was trying to say that all vacuums probably need regular maintenance -- even my expensive and great Kirby.

I love mine! Every third use I take the plate off thats over the rollers (has just a couple of screws that you use a coin to twist in a 1/4 turn and the access plate comes off) pull it out, cut the hair and peal it off - easy peasy and replace the plate. I also dump the canister frequently since saint hair is FLUFFY and it fills up quickly. So far so good. Have had mine about 3 months or so. Never had a vac last that long before.

I've heard mixed reviews about the Dyson. People love 'em or hate 'em.

me, too. I have hardwood everywhere, but I have a few rugs...and, until recently needed to put rugs continuously through the house due to slippage on the wood floors. Now I just like to keep rugs in high-traffic areas so that the dogs have traction.

The absolute best thing about my Dyson is that I almost never use it. That's what the cleaning lady is for. :-)

That being said, Dan does take care of the Dyson by taking it apart a few times a year to clean it all out. It's at least 5 years old.

I bought an Electrolux. It is all metal so if the pet hair gets caught in the roller, it simply stops. Then we pull it out and it starts right back up again. If that happened with anything plastic, it would overheat, melt and be worthless.

My only regret? Not spending the extra $150 to upgrade to one with attachments.

I think if you get a good dyson, you love it. If you get one made Friday afternoon or Monday morning, you hate it! Ours is now 7 years old, and we haven't killed it. For three of those years we had 4 swissies - lots of hair, but short hair. Also, we have wood floors throughout the house and the roller is only used on the oriental rugs and throw rugs. Before I got it cut, my hair was worse in the rollers than the dogs' hair was. We also abuse the heck out of the thing cleaning up around the parrot cages. Pellets, wood slivers, dried fruit bits, shredded newspaper, etc. On the few occassions that I've clogged it, it has so many removeable parts, that you can locate and empty the clog easily. There's no fishing around with a skewer or coat hanger like I had to do with other vacuums. I'm not sure ANY vacuum is made to deal with long hair getting trapped in the rollers without regular cleaning. Its like you need really strong suction with a scrubbing head, rather than a moving roller to get clogged.
    Maybe I'm reconsidering that Pyr!
