    Default Poop eating!

PLEASE GOD!!!! How do I make it stop?

Eris has always been a poop eater but since we have moved and have over 2 feet of snow on the ground I can not pick up after all the dogs the moment they poo. Eris runs outside, roots around like a pig in the snow for the frozen poopcicles. She eats them, drinks a ton of water and well.... yea, yaks up poop water. I am soooo grossed out by her. Aside from putting cayenne pepper in everyones food (not going to happen) what can I do? I had a vet write an article for my blog (which I wont publish) that suggests a shock collar... She is so determined I dont think that would even work. I have to drag her away from the poo sometimes, she just goes in "the zone"

Zeus is also a poop eater and I have recently caught Apollo doing it too..... WTF!!!!!!!!!!! Zeus will yak the poo water too but it is not every time he goes out. My husband suggests that i feed them more, they must be starving, but they eat good kibble in ample portions twice a day. If I feed them extra its too much and they end up going in their crates.

I am really at my wits end with her

oh Lora, I wish I had some suggestions! Charlie is a poop eater and Tucker appears to be on his way to being one too... I've heard that pineapple changes the smell/taste of it, but I couldnt tell you if it works or not...

Daisy only eats Bella's poop. Have no idea why only hers. But it is like she is a dang PEZ despenser. She is sitting there pooping and Daisy has her nose right under catching it. YUCK!!!!
I have heard if you put pineapple in their food it make the poop taste bad ( like it didn't before). Anyway, just an idea.

Meat tenderizer in the food also works, and is easier than pineapple. We have occasional poop eaters in the house, too. It's icky.

Charlie is like that too... he's not interested in his own, just Max's (possibly Tuckers too, he hasnt had a chance yet)

My MIL has used the pineapple thing in the food before, too, and it worked for her dog. He will still eat cat poop, but what dog won't eat that stuff.

Rabbit pellets also work for some...feed them to the dog who's poop is being consumed. Also...Solid Gold made a product that WORKED but is the very devil, to find. It was called S.E.P. (stop eating poop). I used that and it worked on the Beagles and if it stops BEAGLES...perhaps the world's champion "recyclers"...it could probably stop anything!

Almond roca yep...or those things...nonpareils (sp?) that is why I eat neither!

Thanks for the suggestions... I am desperate to try anything at this point because non-positives correction/redirection is NOT working in the slightest. I am truly at my wits end with that girl.

Thanks for bringing this topic up. I have a little girl who likes to eat her brothers poop - yuck! When I asked the vet she didn't really have any help/advice for me other than they sold for-bid, which is a supplement that is supposed to keep the dogs from eating poop, but she said she's gotten mixed reviews back on it. We tried it, didn't work. She also said that she might grow out of it...no luck with that yet either! I just have to clean up the yard every time Duke goes, but sometimes she still manages to get to a pile before I do. I've seen Solid Golds SEP at our little dog boutique. I never knew what it was for. I'm going to pick some up and give it a try - fingers crossed it works! On the plus side, if anyone ever went into my backyard, they'd never know that dogs even lived here! Her bad habit has forced me to clean up our yard like 3 times a day - which trying to look at the bright side, is a good thing!

Oddly enough, Indy has (mostly) stopped this since Gryff's been gone. Beowulfhas started. I think it's interesting in that it's likely tied to pack structure and emotions input house.

I'd say just put in their bowl with their food. If you have a picky eater who would eat around it, maybe try using slices as treats. Although if you're going with pineapple or meat tenderizer or rabbit pellets - all suggested to help, what amounts do you give?

We sprinkled about 1/2 to 1 teaspoon in everyone's food. You'll read that it's rarely effective, but it does tend to work for us. I have read that a high protein, low residue food can lead to copraphagia, which is interesting. The other thing that's changed since Indy has kind of stopped on her own is that we switched her back to Fromm. But she was on it as a puppy, too, and ate poop a lot.

There are dogs that don't eat pineapple? Both mine LOVE it and Maxine is a super picky eater.
