    Default Faking Lick Fits

I think the spare Swissy girl in my house is faking lick fits, or at least doing to wake me up at night to get attention.

Two nights in a row, I've woken up to that steady and frantic sound that most Swissy owners dread. The first night I checked, and of course it stopped when I came out of the bedroom to check on her. Last night, it woke me up again so I sent Dan to take care of it. There was no distress either night. She stopped immediately when we came out.

She's in a slightly stressful situation here, so I'm not going to ignore it. She's used to sleeping in the bed at her house, and in mine she's not allowed in the bedroom. And she's not used to our routines yet. So I will continue to check on her because I'd hate to be wrong and have something happen. But I think she's playing us.

Brutus will start getting "lick fitty" and it freaks me out.. They are not true lick fits like a swissy has but they are disturbing none the less. He gets a glazed over look and starts smacking his lips over and over. The only thing that will make him stop is the promise of food/treat and it will snap him out of it.

Actually, that can snap a dog out of a real lick fit, too. Sometime a distraction is all it takes.

Maybe she is licking her leg or something else and it sounds the same? and when you walk in she stops.... JJ does that sometimes and I have to make her stop....distract her with something... Usually just calling her name will do it. Sorry she's waking yo up at night with it though....

Saphera does that almost every night. She licks in more of a neurotic way opposed to a frantic way (if that makes sense). Sometimes she does it until the entire area around her is soaking wet. I use food to distract her, or a toy and sometimes it works. But for the most part, I almost think it's her way of claming herself before she goes to bed. It's the only time of day she does it. It is LOUD and annoying but, again, I think it is her way of self pacifying.
