    Default Nail trimmer and harnesses.

I was cutting Einstein's nails last night and he jerked right when I was cutting. Cut to far and clipped the quick. Poor little guy. He wont let me near him with the trimmers now. Anyone try the nail grinder or have any other suggestions?
Also a lightweight comfy harness for a Beagle. When on a leash he just gets caught on everything but even worse he will jump from anything. I think a harness would be safer than a collar around his neck.
Unlike my saints I have to watch him all the time.

Awww, poor Einstein! I'm so petrified of getting Abby's quick because I know she'd never trust me again. I was going to try the grinder with Abby but it just didn't seem like it would be that easy to use based on dexterity, and Abby was freaked out by the sound. Since she gladly gives me her paw for trims I just put the grinder away.

As for harnesses, I really dig the harness I got for Abby. It is a Freedom No-Pull Harness by Wiggles, Wags and Whiskers (http://www.wiggleswagswhiskers.com/n...ll-harness.htm), and what I love about it is that it has velour for the strap that goes under the arms and belly. Although it helps tremendously with pulling and that was why I purchased it, the velour is definitely a nice touch. Abby doesn't seem to mind being in the harness for longer periods of times. Additionally she LOVES to hunt moths at night when the flashlight catches them, and I was always worried about her jumping too high because she fell on her back once. The leash that comes with the harness definitely shortens her ability to get into trouble.

Einstein is still snuggling me after I traumatized him... yay! But, if I pull out the trimmer he takes off. I only had one nail left too. Poor pup!
Thanks the harness tip looks like a nice one and comfy too!

We grind the nails - it took weeks to get Boku used to the noise. More than a year later she still does not love it, but she tolerates it, especially as she knows that she gets yummy treats after. I love using the Dremel because with Boku's black nails it is so much safer.

We dremel here as well. We have a cordless dremel from Home Depot and it works great. Goes nice and fast for Duke and Ruger and they have no issues with it. For Zoey my husband holds her and feeds her and she's so into the food she doesn't even notice what I'm doing.

We also use the Dremel ($17 at WalMart I think) but Maxine hates it. So Reggie gets the Dremel (it puts him to sleep) and Max gets the clippers because they are quicker.

I would introduce them slowly if any of your dogs is sensitive at all!!! First day get them used to the noise going, then noise NEAR them, then pet them while holding, then maybe touch a nail for a second or two, but not an entire paw. If we had just gone at Boku that first day she would have freaked!

Caza does not care as long as there are treats at the end - so it really depends on the dog.

Are you guys talking about a real dremel you use for other projects or is this one specifically one made for dogs? (It's just another noise i'm adding to my "must socialized to noise" list. If you are talking about one you get a home depot, i'm assuming it's just a run of the mill dremel, yes?

Yup. Just a regular Dremel. I have a corded and a cordless and for some odd reason, the pups react less to the cordless one - maybe the sound is a little different, or I just have "special" dogs - who knows!!

You use the little cylinder sand paper things that come with a normal dremel.

and grind with the direction of the dremel going away from the foot so that it doesn't feel like the dremel is shoving the nail into the foot. It's less uncomfortable.

I don't dremel these kiddos, but did Oliver's nails that way.
