    Default Itching

Cole seems to be flea free after 10 days on capstar and bombing the house. He is now itching out of control but I dont see anything on him or any flea dirt. He is scratching so hard he is making his skin raw....WTH!!!! The vet isn't there now so I was wondering if there is anything I can do for him to help relieve some of the itching.

Benadryl I don't recall the dose tho...but you need to break the cycle. His histamines are all worked up. It may take a few DAYS of benadryl to stop the cycle.
ah! 1mg per pound 50lbs dog gets a 50mg dose (two adult pills)..etc.

I feel your pain...and Cash feels Cole's itch! Cole and Cash seem to have similar reactions to fleas. It took quite a while for Cash to get settled. I finally ended up taking him in for a prednisone shot because he was so miserably itchy. It was right around this time last year for him. Hang in there!

ETA: I just reread the thread from when Cash had fleas. I had forgotten that he ended up with a staph infection in a couple of the spots that he chewed so badly. We had genticin spray, oral antibiotics and then I finally did the steroid injection. The prednisone was the thing that finally calmed his system. Good luck!!!

sorry it took me a bit to get back to this! I hope he's less itchy now. I am glad someone in the know answered about the benadryl, had no idea lol! Yes if the body histamines are just insane...it can take a corticosteroid to calm things. I dunno about those and epi either tho. I hope the benadryl does the trick. You can do maintenence doses of that too. My kiddo take allegra daily year around. If we miss a day or two she will have a super bad attack. That's how I learned about the cumulative, maintenence effect of allergy meds.

Flea allergies are awful. So many products kill them but not many keep them from BITING and that is really the issue. If a flea has to bite a dog to be affected it really is little help on a flea allergic dog

Good news is Cole is flea FREE!!!! Bad allergies so he got an allergy shot and an antibiotic for 10 to avoid infection in the spots he itched raw. He seems better already and his ears aren't as red. Ok I pray we are all good now
