    Default Zeus Surgery #2

    Good grief....

I took Zeus to the vet to have his stitches removed from his first surgery! They came out and everything looked great. Teeth healing well, side closed up well...

While I am sitting in the waiting room for them to fill his rimidyl rx i scratch his head and run my hands down his ears and notice its really warm on one side. I slide my hand down further and the ear feels like it has a giant mushy marshmallow in it. CRAP!!!! He managed to give himself a giant hematoma while we were sitting there. He must have shook his head and was hit by his dog tag just right and wham its the size of a plum.

I had to pay ANOTHER consult and they said he cant be treated with steroids because he's on rimidyl. So there are two options. Surgical repair or let it go and his ear will be deformed.

They called the overnight surgeon and he said he would do Zeus's surgery if I left him there. So hes at the vet having surgery, again.... sigh.

Have collected Zeus from the vet. I guess it was particularly bad. 15 drains and several dozen stitches. Stitches have to stay in 3 weeks. Poor guy is sporting a cone of shame.

He's still woozy from the anesthesia. Watching him in the cone is just soo sad and pathetic. He's whimpering and crying. I just gave him more pain meds and we are going to bed. Its now 4am... sigh.

Oh my goodness, poor Zeus and poor you again!! I can't believe they made you pay another consult fee. I think I'd be more mad about that than anything!

I hope he's feeling better today. Those hematomas are awful. My parents' dogs had them. One had the millions of stitches that prevent the ear from filling back up and one just had drains -- both healed fine.

Sorry he had to endure another surgery. Poor guy.

OMG just too off the bandages and Zeus's ear is sooooo much worse than I expected. The incision wasn't sutured and blood is pouring out. My bedroom looks like a crime scene!

I just got off the phone and they leave the incision open for it to drain of the hematoma comes right back even with all the drains. She said it was going to be really dicey for the first few days especially with how bad it was. The blood needs to drain out and left open to prevent infection, it will heal from the inside out. I just have to grin and bear it the next few days. I think Im going to be sick.

At least hes not crying like he was last night.
