    Default Iams Recall

Ran across this, and thought I'd pass it along.

At times I think of going back to kibble (picky eaters) .... then I come to my senses and remember why I switched in the first place.

It worries me. Especially when you consider that Blue Buffalo, which is supposed to be a better grade, just had a recall also.

Diamond and P&G are all involved. A dog on another forum died after being infected after eating 4Health.

Jenni, can you please post the information that shows Diamond is involved? I've looked and found no evidence or information on that.

Was the 4Health tested for aflatoxin, too? From what I understand of the situation you may be referencing, there is no proof that 4Health was the culprit, is there? I want to be conservative about this b/c my parents' dog eats TOTW, but I really do not see the connection to this case so far.

Sam Blue Buffalo did have a recall a bit before Iams but I can't remember why.

Here it is. It was toxic levels of vitamin D

I will post the links that were provided to me. I am concerned also as Morgan is eating TOTW. I guess it is possible that the dog got the Aflatoxin fungus somewhere else. I just find it too close is my opinion.

I know it is being found in only certain line but other foods could be processed through the same machines and who knows.

The dog that passed was autopsied and the vet said Aflatoxin.

Oh and I am not trying to scare anyone. Just concerned also .

Thanks, Pam. I did see the BB Vitamin D recall a few months back. Is that related to Diamond? I thought BB was its own company.

    Thanks for the links, Jenni.
I'm still not clear on the connection to Diamond in general or TOTW.
This is P&G and Cargill referenced in the recalls in the links, right? I feel like I am missing something.

I keep reading that Diamond owns its own manufacturing plants so that is why I am confused why Diamond got brought into the recall scare. Aflatoxin is a pretty generic found in grains and anywhere else mold can grow so the sad case of the dog dying of aflatoxin is very tragic, but I am still not clear on the connection.

I'll be keeping up with this issue. I hope the food from the dog who died is being tested along with any treats or whatever else may be the culprit.

I brought up blue buffalo, not to affiliate it with Iams, but to make the point that even "premium" dog brands have issues. I think it was one of their treats that just got recalled.

I feed raw, so I don't keep up with all this stuff as diligently.

Thanks, Jodi. I get it now.

    I feed raw, too.

I help my parents with what they should feed their bouvier, so I try to keep up just for that reason. We've gotten her down to a great weight and she does really well on TOTW, so I don't want to be an alarmist with my parents if this is not connected to Diamond.

I'm not sure if anyone feeds Arrow Brand Foods, but this was also just added: http://www.fda.gov/Safety/Recalls/uc...ce=govdelivery

    Crap!

I am feeding raw but my 2 are so friggin picky I want to go back to kibble. This scares me -- one of the few kibbles Tru can have AND likes is Evo (he can't have chicken or flaxseed) but I'm not sure I trust them since they were purchased.

I'm with Sam...I can't make the connection to Diamond or P&G from these articles...Not to say it's not connected but I can't make the connection from these links...Maybe I'm missing something?????

We rotate through Orijen, TOTW (currently eating), Fromm and the occasional bag of Evo.
We don't feed any poultry because Birdie is allergic.

This sheds some additional light on what is going on.

Yeah, I've looked into this further and from what I gather there was not a credible link to anything related to Diamond/TOTW.
This was an Iams issue (and now expanded to Arrow).

If anyone finds something to the contrary, please post.

I looked around too, as we are currently feeding TOTW. Beth & Co at the Barkery are always great about having this info on hand, and I have not heard anyone there mention it.
