    Default Duke Remembered HER :)

My sister and my aunt came down to visit for the first time. It's been about a year since Duke's seen my sister and we were wondering if he would remember her or if he'd act any different when he saw her. I suppose I should add that Duke and I lived with my dad, mom, sister, and brother until he was just under two and then he moved out with me. After we moved out, he'd still see my mom and sister weekly at dog class and he'd see the whole family most weekends, until we moved down to Texas a year ago.

Well, when Duke saw Kristen (my sister) he looked at her, turned his head and looked again - like a person doing a double take, and then he went crazy! It was obvious that he remembered her and he knew exactly who she was. He proceeded to follow her all around the house and wouldn't let her out of his sight. He even slept with her the whole time she was here.

His reaction was just priceless and we were all really surprised by it. He's always been my boy, but I guess he's missed his Kristen. He doesn't seem sad that they left, but boy was he excited to see her!

Okay - I panicked when I saw the title of this thread. I thought WE were remembering Duke...like, he wasn't with us anymore. It is way too early for this type of scare!!

    I also panicked.

It's always cute to see them react to someone like that. I used to love watching Alex respond to Dan's mom when she'd come over. (They lived together for a couple of years.)

How sweet! And I guess your sister didn't mind her constant companion.
Although I thought dogs had very poor memory, which is why you don't punish them for something they did an hour before? It has to be done immediately after the action occurred. Or is that a logic vs. memory thing?

I'm guessing that because dogs build relationships with people and other dogs over time, they are remembered. Maybe it has something to do with scent as well. You'll notice how you don't have to start from scratch with Indy every time she sees you because she's had enough experience with you to build a relationship and memory. But my mom, who only sees her once in a while, has to go through the same barky stuff every time she comes by. (I don't want her around more, so I'll live with it.)

Sorry for the title scare, I didn't even think about it - oops.

It was really neat, and of course Kristen loved it!

dogs have scent memories. So when they get the scent they go to their scent memory bank and there you are. LOL

Aww.. that's too cute. I bet you were a wee bit jealous tho huh?
If Roxy started following someone else around.. i'd be a bit perturbed. Although I guess that's how she feels when I pet/play with other dogs! Hey! that's MY HUMAN!! haha

I was fine with him ditching me for her It gave Ruger and I some time together without Duke butting in (he's a huge mama's boy) so that was nice. Plus, it was neat to see him so happy to see her.
