    Default Poop Fence

I was watching "Me or the Dog" yesterday ... I never really watch that show, but anyway ... they had this couple build an area for the dogs to poo. It was sort of like lattice work fence and was up against the privacy fence with openings on either side for entering/exiting. The couple was supposed to take the dogs to that exact spot and keep them there until they went, reward with treats. The trainer said after doing it for a few weeks the dogs would learn to go to that spot.

Anyone tried something similar? I'm thinking when we move we'll do something like that for Tek and Morgan so there's not poo all over the yard and make clean up easier. They do tend to stick to general areas, but it's different sides of the yard.

I would think it would be easy enough to teach, especially in a new place.

It works! We did it with Kook when he was a pup...the area we designated happened to be the last part of our yard to lose all the snow that year, and he had been pooping on snow his entire life (born in Dec and all) he was a little stressed when he ran out of snow in his poop corner. But he got over it and just continued to use that spot. Now at our current house he sort of designated himself a new spot and goes there about 90% of the time, on his own.

Cash already prefers to poop in one of two spots. One spot (the very back of the yard) is the one I want to encourage long term. The other spot is out of the way too, though, so no complaints. I wouldn't think it would be hard to train.

I taught Basja to use the very back corner of our yard. Took her on leash for 2 months when I first got her and now she just goes "all the way out" automatically (I say it to her every time, cuz the one time I didn't she pooped 10 feet from the door) .

we did it too. we put pee gravel down the side our house and that is his poo zone.

ETA: except for when it is raining and the sissy barely makes it out the back door.
