Default ESRA Extreme Makeover - Meet Max

Meet Max. He was surrendered by his owner to ESRA last week. Max is nine years old, has never been groomed or to the vet.

He is heartworm negative - something we are THRILLED about.

Max is being fostered in Jacksonville FL until he finds his perfect forever home. He has been described by his foster mom as the "perfect springer...loving, affectionate, eager to please". Here's the deal - this is Max's "after" picture.

    This is his "before"...

The hematoma was so large he was having trouble holding his head upright! It was the size of a large, navel orange.

Max is recovering and will soon be up for adoption to a lucky somebody who will give him the love and care he deserves.

    Now that's an extreme makeover.

    Want.

How does someone let that happen to their dog? He is just the sweetest thing. His eyes look much happier now.

Either they are blind or they can't see.

He does look happier - doesn't he?

As I scrolled down and saw that second picture, I couldn't help but gasp - poor guy. How does that even happen to an ear? But, his after pic looks fabulous!!! He's got such a sweet face.

My bet is he's had an ear infection and he has been shaking his head and ears.
We used to see it a lot in the clinic where I worked with Golden Retrievers...
I've seen some that are pretty big but nothing like that on a dog his size...Poor thing - he must have been miserable...

Wow, how awful. How can someone let that happen to their pet? Or even a dog not their pet?

He does look much happier and that makes me glad

So his owner is giving him up at NINE years old? Grrrrr.

He sure is handsome. Springers have such great eyes.

Yep. People do stupid, crazy things don't they? It's hard to believe some days.

Broke my heart, that picture. Same sad eyes Buddy had when he got in trouble. UNFREAKINGREAL!!!! How do you ignore that!!!! That pisses me off so much!!! As you know, 9 is not that old for a relatively healthy springer, this boy will spend the rest of his years having a great life, hopefully making up for the crappy one he has had so far. I think it is so much sadder when they are an owner surrender, giving up the only owners they ever knew, it's just heartbreaking taking them away from their home, something I have done before and really hate having to do. When they come out of the pound they are so happy to be out that they are usually much skippier, but owner surrenders, oh, the worst, even if they are coming from a crappy life, it's all they know. I can't wait to hear how he turns out.

Wow! Amazing transformation. In this case I'm glad he was given up, even at his age. The ESRA seems to do some awesome stuff. Nice work.
