So we're at Petsmart for our weekly attempt to socialize Kayla, and had the craziest encounter.
Walking down one of the main isles, when an older lady and her husband stop right in front of us.
"Oh what a pretty dog", she says.
"Thanks", "Kayla, Sit".
(Kayla knows she's gonna get a treat at some point, and actually sits when she's told).
"Kayla is my grand daughters name" she tells us.
Becky and my mother explain how that was her name when we got her from the rescue and we didn't want to change it.
"Can I pet her?" she asks.
"Sure, "handing her a chicken treat. "Just give her this".
(Kayla takes the treat very nicely and the lady pets her on the head).
"What kind of dog is she?" the lady asks.
"Rottweiler" Becky tells her.
"Oh!" she says taking two steps back.
"I don't like Rottweilers, they scare me", and she turns, and walks away.
HUH??
Now I understand that not everyone likes Rottweilers, that's fine.
I also understand that some people are afraid of Rotts, that's OK too.
But I've never had anyone stop me, actually meet my dog, then tell me they were afraid of her!
<sigh> I'll never understand some people.
Oh well, the rest of the afternoon was without drama.
Kayla got petted by 3-4 other people, and more importantly did really well with all the other dogs there today. Not perfect mind you, but she's getting much better about it. And as long as she's improving, we'll keep going.![]()
