    Default Encounter at Petsmart

So we're at Petsmart for our weekly attempt to socialize Kayla, and had the craziest encounter.

Walking down one of the main isles, when an older lady and her husband stop right in front of us.
"Oh what a pretty dog", she says.
    "Thanks", "Kayla, Sit".
(Kayla knows she's gonna get a treat at some point, and actually sits when she's told).
"Kayla is my grand daughters name" she tells us.
Becky and my mother explain how that was her name when we got her from the rescue and we didn't want to change it.
"Can I pet her?" she asks.
"Sure, "handing her a chicken treat. "Just give her this".
(Kayla takes the treat very nicely and the lady pets her on the head).
"What kind of dog is she?" the lady asks.
    "Rottweiler" Becky tells her.
"Oh!" she says taking two steps back.
"I don't like Rottweilers, they scare me", and she turns, and walks away.

    HUH??

Now I understand that not everyone likes Rottweilers, that's fine.
I also understand that some people are afraid of Rotts, that's OK too.
But I've never had anyone stop me, actually meet my dog, then tell me they were afraid of her!
<sigh> I'll never understand some people.

Oh well, the rest of the afternoon was without drama.
Kayla got petted by 3-4 other people, and more importantly did really well with all the other dogs there today. Not perfect mind you, but she's getting much better about it. And as long as she's improving, we'll keep going.

How could she know she didn't like Rottweilers if she didn't even know what they looked like? Huh!!

so she doesn't know what a Rott looks like then, just that she is afraid of them?

    LOL. Nice...good survival skill.
"I am afraid of xyz, so as soon as someone else TELLS me its xyz I will run. Not like I could educate myself enough to know what xyz looks like on my own so I can indulge my stupid fear without having to incovenience others" LMAO.

That is the height of idiocy - some people make me crazy!

I am sure pittie owners have gone through similar things. There is some sort of crazed black puggle????? in my neighborhood that always gets loose. The owners can't catch him. He lunges and bites anything he can reach. I would not give him a treat for fear of losing fingers and yet people are like "Ohhh - what a cute little dog. He is so funny when he gets all crazy like that." People are nuts. If that was a big dog going crazy they would be calling for it to be put down.

LOL Human stupidity never ceases to amaze me.
On the other hand......if we hadn't run into this idjit, I probably wouldn't have posted about taking Kayla to Petsmart.
So I guess she wasn't a complete waste of atmosphere........she gave us something to talk about

I am just jealous you can take Kayla into petSmart. When we used to take Maxine there for grooming, we had to practically run from the front door to the back, just to make sure she did not eat anyone along the way. And Reggie just tries to pee on everything.

Good for Kayla being so tolerant. And to you for continuing to take her, stupid people and all.

What a silly person. When I tell pple that Bryn is part Rottie they kind of cringe. He's also part Golden but THAT'S alright. And the pyr part, just makes him look...well goofy. Sorry pyr peeps, I know your dogs are dignified, but mine definitely isn't.
