    Angry Thought I found vet - warning L O N G!

I took Truman in 2 weeks ago to our new vet to have a full thyroid panel done in hopes of finding the cause of his Great Bigness. When we arrived the tech told me the price and I must have flinched, she went back to her computer and about 15 minutes later she come back with a test she says covers all the thyroid test plus the electrolytes for only $124.

Results come in and the vet calls - says Truman is healthy, no thyroid problem, 'lytes are good and that we should change up his daily exercise - that like people, Truman could be in a rut so we went with that and started new routines 2 weeks ago.

Yesterday I stopped by the vet's office to get a copy of the test results to keep in the home file and request a refill for his prednisone and it turns out the test that should have included everything for his thyroid didn't include everything.

Today I had another consult with him about Tru's issues (which for the 2nd time he made me wait 55 minutes PAST our appointment time and we were the ONLY clients there!)

I'm pissed!!!!!!! I want to cry, scream and beat the $h!t out of this vet!! Mostly because of Truman's Addison's and the things he is telling me but I am going to need to take Tru in for a TSH and TgAA test since those weren't included and that's another $181.00

He (the vet) is convinced it's not Addison's but just some wild hormonal imbalance that can be treated with Melatonin ... even after seeing the ACTH test results.

I swear I must have "sucker" stamped on my forehead or something, every time I walk into a vet's office they want to take Truman off of his cortisol replacement meds and "see" if he really needs them without replacing them with non-steroidal meds. Doing this would send Truman into an addison crisis and most likely kill him.

Honest to God do they think just because I spent $$thousands$$ on the first go around I can and want to do it again ... or risk killing him ... just in case he doesn't have AD. I was there the first 19 months of his life - I saw the "difference"

So next week or so I'll take Truman and have the TSH & TgAA tests done - find out once and for all, this poor dog is starving on 2.5 pounds of meat a day. According to the raw food calculator an overweight dog weighing 190# should be eating 3.8 pounds per day. And Truman weighs 230#

Oh and all the extra running and walking I've had him doing in the last 2 weeks - I've lost 6 pounds and Truman has lost a total of 1

I am so sorry Laura...Have you considered taking him to a veterinary teaching hospital?
I think it would be time and money well spent...Just a thought...((hugs))

Laura that sucks. Why do vets keep thinking they need to reinvent the wheel?

Oh Laura, I am so sorry I dont suppose there is a university hospital you could try? I know around here, if its a puzzle, then most people go to Texas A&M for answers...

Sorry Laura. Believe me, I know how you feel. Continue to be Tru's advocate, you'll find an answer. It is just a VERY very frustrating road to get there and sometimes you get stuck in the mud.

I've decided it is time to enlist the help of Dr Dodds at least for the thyroid testing. I'll have his blood drawn next week and send it to the Hemopet lab that is local for me.

Thanks for letting me vent and for all the support.

I was going to suggest you sent a sample to Jean Dodds... They think so highly of her in the UK that alot of people send their blood work all the way to her in California. If theres something to be found, she'll find it. Good luck!

Sorry you are having to deal with this. At least you lost 6 pounds.... Wish I could loose 6 pounds.
