Default Our Little Baby Girl is All Grown Up

Ruger started her first heat today, much to the dismay of our duvet cover and duvet. They should wash up just fine though. She's wearing her new panties and doing really well with them. At first she kept trying to poke her nose in them to clean herself but I repositioned them and tightened them a bit and she's left them alone.

I thought 2 pairs would be enough, but I may be mistaken. She has a really cute black with white polka dot pair that I ordered and they arrived yesterday - what timing! And then she has the hand me down denim pair that Saphera's mom, Terri, was nice enough to send. I may need to be getting a few more.

Duke hasn't been interested yet at all, but I'm sure that will change so I will enjoy the peace and quiet while we have it.

awwww the little girl is growing up. Daisy never went through a heat. She ate a sock before it happened so I had her spayed while they were in there. Good luck!

I know dogs are pretty fanatical about cleaning themselves. Is there any reason (besides the ICK factor) that they are not allowed to clean themselves?

they don't clean themselves enough Jodi. They will leave bloodspots all over everything. Some girls hardly leak at all while others look like a murder scene when they get up from laying down. They may clean THEMESELVES but that does nothing for your walls, furniture, pants, hands, or etc.

Swissies we have one pair of Seasonals and that's all we need. I change the pad (I always have some well...Always around lol) and we do it that way. I wash the pants part when she's done for that season.

Aww, she's all grown up! I'm surprised Duke isn't interested yet. Gryffin was all over Indy from her first heat on. You may go through more diapers for the first few days, I think, as she gets used to it. We were lucky with Indy. She had 3 heat cycles before she was fixed, and the last one was so light, we barely noticed it. She had her diaper on for 2 days and that was it.

I let my dogs clean themselves. Also it allows air to circulate.
As far as the house, I put down sheets, or blankets etc. Using hydrogen perioxide seems to work pretty well.

Ruger- such a big girl you are!

I had just put a pantie liner in this morning and it wasn't as wide as the panties, so they got a little dirty. But, I put a pad in now, and I think it will work much better. I was planning on washing them after each day or if they were a little dirty when I changed them. Which based on my estimates from this morning I figured would be multiple times a day But, I will say that the pad works much better!

I'm shocked too - in a good way though! I've heard all the horrer stories about the boys going crazy and crying and whining and not eating. I realize we will probably have that as she get further into her cycle, but I'm thrilled that he hasn't been going crazy before she started or even now that she has started. Even if it's one day of quiet, I definitely appreciate it. They are both sleeping soundly right now.

I'm uploading some pics now, so they'll be posted soon.

    As promised.

I think they might be a little big on her, what do you guys think? They're doing the job perfectly fine, so I guess that's the most important part. I think I'll try washing them in hot water and drying them in hopes that they shrink a little.

I know, I know, no embarrassing panties in this one, but it's from today and I like it

See I wasn't lying about him not caring one bit...yet. They'll be separated soon, but he's honestly not paying her one tiney bit of attention so I haven't done it yet. They haven't been out of my sight though either.

Those aren't nearly embarrassing enough, but they are cute. Duke was never fixed, right? Not that he was broken...

be VERY careful indeed. Many boys know the exact INSTANT a girl is fertile and they turn on like lightswitches. PLEASE be pre emptive, not reactive

Thanks, Gina. We will. We already have the kennels set up pretty much as far away from each other as possible in the house, and if need be, Duke has an invitation to stay at a friends house. We are being very serious about it because we definitely don't want any oopses.

awe!! we also use pads with wings in the the doggie panties... much easier than washing all the time!! Argus showed NO interest in Teagans first two heats. The third heat was ridiculous.... I sent him away and he was still awful. One of the main reasons im thinking about collecting him (just incase) and neutering him ! Yatta hasnt graced us with that gift yet. Ugh. Teagan has always looked like a murder scene.. and just FYI her ovulation was way after we thought her heat was over so air on the side of caution.

Thanks for the warning, so do you recommend that we still keep them separated for about a week after we think she's done or is there a better way to determine it?

We've made it through a whole week. Duke still has no interest what so ever, not even a little bit. We've been keeping them separated though. He's been spending time in our room while she's out and about and she's in her kennel when he's out. I think Duke is kind of liking not being bugged by his baby sister and getting Mom all to himself and napping without any interruptions Ruger on the other hand is getting board not having Duke to hang out with. We try and play with her, but apparently it's just not the same! The routine of one in and one out is going very smoothly, thank goodness. I do feel guilty for having one put away all the time, but such is life. Hopefully all stays as it is, but I know I can't count on that, but I can hope

    Are these better?

and because I can't post just embarrasing pics of my poor girl

Okay, this all makes me even more glad I have a boy. I know it's a whole different set of issues, but at least I won't need panties and pads for him.

But, Ruger is quite cute in polka dots!

The heat cycle isn't really that bad, Jen. The first one can be a bit tricky to get used to, but we went through 3 with Indy and only the first one was "eventful."
