My BIL came across a neglected 8 month old, intact, male doberman that the owners don't want anymore, and we are hoping to be able to go get him this afternoon. He is pretty much living in a back yard, in a high crime area, not being well cared for, pretty much ignored, though he is being fed, he said he didn't seem to be terribly underweight. My BIL is a cop, this guy with the dog is not a very nice guy, so I'm hoping the dog isn't too messed up. He seems very friendly. I contacted a good doberman rescue that I know and have the guy standing buy to bring him the dog. I am praying, crossing my fingers, that we get this dog, because I can just see him going into the wrong hands and being bred or shoved in some other horrible situation where he won't be cared for and left in a back yard, in Florida, all summer long. He is not on heartworm preventative, I'm sure, but does anyone know if dogs this young can get heartworms? I hope he's ok. My BIL says he apprears to be very sweet and friendly and walks up to anyone he meets with tail wagging. He says his ears were cut, but apparently they didn't keep them taped correctly because they flop, but he is supposed to be beautiful. Please send some happy thoughts my way that we able to get this little guy and get him to his forever home so that he does not have to be subject to BYB and shoved into a back yard and ignored. This doberman rescue is wonderful, I know the guy, and he will make sure that the owners are super screened, have vet ref's, fenced yard, no little kids, and all the things that need to be checked. He is really picky, and I'm good with that. He says first stop for this guy, if we get him, is to the vet to get him singing soprano. Wish me luck! I think we are going to need it!
