Default Things we need for Ozzy

New puppy means new stuff, right? We already have a couple of crates we can use, including a new Noz2Noz soft crate that I can use for both Swissies (not at the same time) if needed. We have tags, a bowl (Gryffin's), and a new place mat for it (never had one before). I haven't bought any collars for him yet, as I think it will be better if we wait and get him something as he grows. Although we will pick up a new Swiss collar for him when we get him. We've also got a leash and food.

I know we could use a new bed or two. And probably some puppy toys. Anything you guys would suggest? Anything I'm forgetting?

I think Amy just said the most important one...booze. And a sense of humor.

You might consider adding a padded room to the house too if you don't already have one. A place to spend some time in when you have gotten a little too close to that edge that only a puppy can push you to.

Thanks for making me laugh, everyone!

I will add this...for those of you that have not been in my house, we have an enormous amount of booze in the house. Between the wine cellar and the many, many, many bottles of liquor, plus the beer, we are covered. If we go through even half of it because of the puppy, we will be dead or pickled.

We don't have Nature's Miracle anymore, so I put that on my list. We have lots of Fresh Wave stuff, including the carpet deodorizer. We bought a fancy new carpet cleaner (it is really nice) because a SpotBot will not suffice for Swissy puppy pee. I do have earplugs, but will need to start saving the newspapers that get delivered (regardless of our request) every week. I do have a fresh supply of bandaids as I am a clutz anyway. I'm due for a big cut this summer. We get many, many paper towels due to a geriatric basset. I'm sure I will forget the sense of humor periodically, so I will need you guys to remind me to have one every once in a while.

Must remember to hide the remotes. And the socks. And the shoes. It's probably time for a new sofa soon anyway...I can't wait for that expense, too.

Make sure you have your camera charger so you can take lots of pics without running out of battery! Oh and that handy dandy cable to connect it to the computer so you can post all the pics That's key.

I agree with the suggestions of booze, humor, and patience! And, paper-towels!!

Delilah was 6 months old when she came to us, so not really a super-young puppy. She loved her stuffed toys and did not manage to tear them up until she hit 9 months old.

She LOVES her antler as a chew toy. She has ground down only one of the prongs (?is that what they're called). She chews on it every day and it keeps her busy. For a teething puppy, I highly suggest antlers!
I like to use a harness for walking, so I got one of those right away, too.

Oh, yes! Cash LOVES his antler, too! Being a Swissy, he was positive it was evil at first, but now it's his favorite.

Seriously, I hope Ozzy is like Cash...easy to potty-train and doesn't chew on anything...but I think I may just have a defective Swissy.

This made me giggle. I use to get in the shower so I couldn't hear, or have to deal with Daisy for 30 solid minutes. LOL... so maybe lots of shower gel.

We do have an antler in the house. Indy likes it, but has many other bones, so she'll probably let Ozzy chew it.

I wish I could get away from them by going into the shower for a bit. But SOMEONE is not up when I get ready for work, so the pup will get shut in the washroom with me since I will have just let him out of the crate.

No fears - I will have the camera charged and ready to go. All three of them. And both Flips will have new batteries. And the iPhones will be charged. Heck, Dan may have his new iPhone by then with his fancy HD video.

You are so lucky. Baron was 10mo old before he was reliable in the house and a 90lb dog can pee A LOT!!!!

I'd be happy if he turns out like a combo of Indy, Cash and Copper. Indy was reliable in her crate very quickly - especially overnight. She had issues during the day more frequently, but was still pretty darn good. I'm told both Cash and Copper did well on the potty training, I would be ok is a little like all of them. Gryffin was probably around the same as Baron.

We're just over 5 months and have had very few accidents. He either rings his bells or whines at the back door. There were two really bad days...the first really rainy day, and the day after they pumped him full of steroids for anaphylaxis. Otherwise, he had a few accidents the first few weeks and a very, very rare one since, but that's it. He has peed in his crate exactly once and he completely freaked out about it.

Cash has honestly been such an easy puppy...slept through the night from day 1, potty trained, no chewing or stealing stuff...I'm just afraid for when I'll have to pay my dues....
